An American icon goes electric

Cadillac and its Escalade SUV are gearing up for an EV future

An American icon goes electric
Escalade has enjoyed 20 years of cultural relevance, and is now going electric

The great Chuck Berry sang about a Cadillac in his 1955 hit Maybellene; while the Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator may not date back as far, its 1939 Cadillac Series 75 cements an even older legacy for the brand in popular culture consumed not just in the US itself, but globally.

And its Escalade SUV continued this worldwide cultural footprint into the 21stcentury, as it was championed by hip-hop stars including Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez and 50 Cent, as well as gracing countless films and TV shoes. Arguably the greatest small-screen character of all-time, Tony Soprano, drove an Escalade.
