Volvo’s European BEV sales slip into third
All-electric’s position as the Sino-Swedish OEM’s best-selling vehicle type in Europe suffers October setback
The two firms build on a similar deal announced in the UK last year
Statkraft-owned EV charging firm Mer will install and operate over 1,000 EV charging points at Ikea stores in Germany from 2025.
The charging stations will have an average of 19 charging points per location supplied by renewable energy.
"Through our cooperation with Ikea, we now have a solid position in Germany and we look forward to starting this project," says Mer CEO Kristoffer Thoner.
The charging points will be available for delivery vehicles as well as for employees and customers. Mer will be responsible for implementation, management and maintenance.
Last year, the two companies announced a similar deal to install 196 chargers in UK Ikea stores, with a £4.5mn investment from Ikea.
The UK deal was focused on charging Ikea delivery vehicles. The Swedish furniture firm has a goal to reach 100pc zero emissions deliveries from all its stores and distribution centres by 2025.
It has EV delivery vehicles operating in Australia, China, France, and India, as well as the UK and Germany.
In 2022 Mer acquired UK charging firm Elmtronics, taking over contracts to design, install and maintain EV charging stations at UK NHS trusts.
The firm also has a footprint in Norway, Sweden and Austria – operating a total of 36,000 charging stations across Europe.
In January the firm appointed a new COO in Laurence Langenbrink as part of a strategy to make its operations more customer-centric.
